Vikki picks up top award and inspires other young people

One of Melin Homes’ Future Job Fund trainees recently picked up an award for trainee of the year at an annual Melin staff conference.

Vikki Bradshaw, aged 20 from Cwmbran was presented with the award in front of all of Melin’s 160 staff at the conference held in Newport recently.

The award recognised Vikki’s hard work, commitment and enthusiasm during her time as a Future Jobs Fund trainee at Melin Homes and has inspired Melin’s 19 other Future Job Fund trainees to try to follow in her footsteps.

Melin Homes is one of Torfaen’s biggest employers of young people under the Future Jobs Fund scheme which is a £1 billion Department of Work and Pensions UK wide initiative that provides jobs and training for young people.

Since October, Vikki has gained qualifications, skills and experience in a variety of roles. She explained: “I now have an NVQ qualification in Customer Service and experience of a wide range of office work. I will be very sad when my six month placement finishes, but I will always have my qualification and experience, whatever I do next.

I would like to thank Melin Homes for giving me this opportunity which I know will help me enormously in my job hunting.”

Melin’s Chief Executive, Mark Gardner is delighted with Vikki’s huge improvement. He said: “Vikki is a wonderful example of how a young person can develop over a short period of time. We have 12 trainees at Melin and I am impressed with every one of them. Their enthusiasm and positive attitude is a credit to them. I wish Vikki every success in the future. “

Bryn Williams, Future Jobs Fund Manager Torfaen said: “All of us at the Future Job Fund Team are delighted that Vikki’s achievements have been recognised with this award. She has made tremendous progress over the last six months and it is great to see her being rewarded for all her hard work.”
